Nourish Yourself

Nourish Yourself for June

June is the perfect month to nourish yourself and your environment. Things are heating up and we’re heading towards more indoor time, but that never means settling for less. On the contrary, it means settling for MORE! That’s especially true this year, with pandemic restrictions lifting. Go for more flavors! More scents! More views! More textures! Delight ALL of your senses!

This isn’t just a return to your old pre-pandemic activities, this is an opportunity to explore new places and new people. It’s time for a new adventure. AS Richard Branson says, “If happiness is the goal - and it should be - then adventures should be a priority.” These don’t have to be world-traveling exotic adventures; with the right mindset, anything can be an adventure. All you have to do is go across town and try a cuisine you’ve never tried before. You can also go inward for an adventure of another kind, spending time to rest and rejuvenate your senses, mindfully nourishing yourself with peace and aromatherapy. When you’re ready to settle for MORE when it comes to your living space, give me a call and we can explore homes together. I’m Stephen Burchard, the Desert Bowtie Realtor, Taking the (K)nots Out of Real Estate. www.StephenBurchard.com

Stephen's Garden | June 2021

June is the time for the garden’s late bloomers to shine. When other plants have finished their fanciful displays, June blooms show up for the encore performance. Desert bloomers, like Desert Bird of Paradise, are having a field day with orange, yellow, and pops of red. Just one look at the bees buzzing around a purple smoke tree and you know it’s June in the desert. June marks an Intense watering and weeding time for your fruits and veggies. As the citrus starts to fruit with tiny green lemons, limes, and grapefruit, you want to help them get off to a good start. This is a good reminder to mirror that concept to ourselves. Drink plenty of water and take a look at your diet. It’s time to get that swimsuit body in shape!

Relaxing DIY Chamomile Tea Face Mask

As the world emerges from mask mandates, it’s time to relax and nourish ourselves with a different kind of mask. One that soothes your skin and leaves you feeling refreshed with the calming effects of chamomile. You’ll need:
  • Two chamomile tea bags
  • 1 3/4 cups water
  • ¼ cup oatmeal
  • 2 tbs plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp honey
Put water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add 2 chamomile tea bags. Pour yourself a cup of tea after 1-2 minutes and enjoy. Allow the rest of the tea to steep for an additional 5 minutes. Remove tea bags and save. Add oatmeal and return to heat, simmering for 5 minutes. Cover, remove from heat, and allow to cool to a soothing temperature. Add yogurt and honey. Apply to face. Place tea bags on eyes and relax for 10 minutes. Rinse with cool water.

This Month We Celebrate ALL Businesses!

There’s no doubt about it, the last year or so has been a big challenge for a number of businesses, but thanks to vaccinations and big decreases in COVID-19 rates, things are opening up, celebrations are taking place, and we get to go check out our favorite stores and restaurants. So this month, I encourage you to celebrate the adapter and survivors who have made it through the hardest business year they’ve ever seen. Go out to a restaurant! Go walk at the River or stroll downtown Palm Springs! See people, shop in the stores. You’ve been buying online or doing without, but now it’s time to actually browse and see the things you purchase in real life and real time. Get together for coffee! Go to a movie! Get that economy moving for the little independent businesses that make each of our desert communities so unique. Spend big and tip bigger! This is Welcome Back month!

Tahquitz Canyon

Tahquitz Canyon is one of the most beautiful and culturally sensitive areas of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Reservation. This sacred and ancient Canyon is home to a spectacular seasonal 60-foot waterfall, rock art, ancient irrigation systems, native wildlife, and plants. Located at the entrance to the canyon, the Tahquitz Canyon Visitor Center blends modern architecture with natural beauty, offering educational and cultural exhibits.

The 1.8-mile trail leads to Tahquitz Falls and back. From the Visitor's Center to the falls you will be gaining 350 feet in elevation. The trail is steep and rocky with many rock steps to climb. You must have good balance and be able to climb up and down rock steps that may be as high as 12-15 inches. For hours, admission prices, or to schedule an interpreter-led hike, go to http://www.tahquitzcanyon.com/hours.
